Tell Hawai'i State Legislators to End the Sale of Flavored Tobacco Products

The tobacco industry uses flavored products to lure kids and get them hooked, and these products are fueling the youth nicotine addiction crisis in our state.

Youth e-cigarette use remains at epidemic levels. An overwhelming majority of kids who vape say flavors are why they do it. Meanwhile, Big Tobacco continues to use minty menthol cigarettes and small dessert-flavored cigars to target and addict youth as they've done for decades, especially in communities of color.

It's time to stop this — and protect our kids — by ending the sale of all flavored tobacco products.

Every signature brings us one step closer to protecting our kids from Big Tobacco. Join our movement below to make our voices heard and urge legislators to do the right thing before more kids' lives are irrevocably impacted.

We, the undersigned residents of the state of Hawai'i, fervently urge you to take immediate action in eliminating the sale of flavored tobacco products, including menthol cigarettes and e-cigarettes, within our state.

This petition reflects our collective concern for the health and well-being of our community, particularly our youth, who are increasingly falling prey to the allure of these harmful and enticing products.

The Facts

  • 14.8% of high school students in Hawai'i are currently using e-cigarettes, starting a nicotine addiction that could potentially last a lifetime.
  • 8 out of 10 youth start with a flavored product.
  • 95% of smokers start before the age of 21.
  • Flavored tobacco products disproportionately impact vulnerable communities, exacerbating existing health disparities.
  • Native Hawaiian, Filipinos and other Pacific Islanders have been specifically targeted by Big Tobacco through decades of insidious marketing.

Banning the sale of flavored tobacco products will address this public health crisis, promote health equity for the people of Hawai'i, and safeguard a healthy future for our keiki.
